Guide Boards
Guide boards, sticker boards and slitter boards are all names associated with lumber used at the Cold Rolling Mills.
These parts are utilized as sacrificial wear surfaces at the entry and exit points of the Mill. These parts are usually fabricated from Kiln Dried Maple and Green mix hardwoods. These parts come in all shapes and sizes, with or without cutouts, and with or without cleats.
Test Boards
Test boards are typically used in the Melt Shop, where quenching spray patterns are determined.
Typically painted, these boards allow the operator to visually see the quenching spray pattern, and correct any spray nozzles that may have moved since the last visual inspection. The boards are fabricated from various grades of plywood.
Collector Staffs
Collector staffs are utilized as a non-conductor part on electrically operated, overhead cranes.
These staffs or poles, support the electrical wiring, used to power the crane. Collector Staffs are typically made from Kiln Dried Oak and Maple.
Mallets & Lap Bats
Used for various purposes, Mallets and Lap Bats are typically utilized to beat on steel strip to keep the laps symmetrical during rewinding.

Coil and Roll Supports
Produced from Kiln Dried and Green Lumber, these structural supports are made per the customer's specifications for the placement and storage of coils and work rolls in the mills.
Capable of providing a buffer between the coil and the floor, these supports help protect the coils and rolls from blemishes, marring and eventual damage. These supports really stand the test of time.

Wheel Chocks
Chocks and Wedges are used for a variety of applications in many plants.
Wheel chocks can be utilized in the rail yard to maintain placement of rail cars, or simply used to chock truck tires, during the loading and unloading process. These parts can be painted in safety colors of your choice, for high visibility and recognition.

Coil Protection Products
Coil Protection Products
Coils must be handled without damaging the ID.
The plastic ID rings are used to protect the edges of the coil ID's while the coils are shipped and handled during processing. Also pictured is a yellow industrial strength coil pad. The yellow pad protects the coils while they are stored by cushioning the pad against the floor. The ergonomic and safety benefits to the pads are realized when oil runoff from the coils is collected in a pan at the end of the pan. The pan is molded into the yellow pad.
Airlite Plastics
Airlite Plastics (A Division of Canfield Manufacturing) produces ID protectors and rest pads used to protect coiled metals during processing.
The ID protectors eliminate damage to the edges of the coils during handling and processing. The coil saddle pad protects the coil surface while it is staged or warehoused. The coil pads can be designed with a trough end to allow for the retention of oils and fluids used in processing the coils. By trapping the oils and fluids in the trough, the pads help eliminate slippery floors and ergonomic safety issues.

Wear Resistant Products
Wear Resistant Products
Wear and erosion of materials is a great concern to production and maintenance.
As production ensues, wear and erosion is inevitable. While wear and erosion can be created in many different ways, most is caused by friction of two like or dissimilar materials; from the rubbing, flowing, processing and transferring of these materials.
While no one product can completely prevent wear or erosion, the concept of wear and erosion resistant products is to provide a medium that retards or stalls this process. These add-on protection parts to prevent wear and erosion can be singular in nature, or a composite of materials.
The best wear and erosion protection products may have various characteristics, such as impact resistance, a hard or soft wear surfaces, the ability to form itself to the wear or erosion surface, seamless, be firm or flexible, and have mechanical abilities to resist wear. They can be individual parts that are molded or machined, or a composite of materials attached to a re-useable mounting plate. They can be cast in place or sprayed on at the point of wear and erosion.
Other good characteristics include items that are:
- Impact resistant components
- Hard and wear resistant surface
- Impact resistant assemblies with customized layers
- Simple and reliable mechanical attachment
- Can be glued in place when steel backing plate is not used
- Elements easily replaceable
- Good sound insulation and reduction
- Optimal adaptation to the specific requirements thanks to varying sizes, thickness and design
Canfield Manufacturing and it's plastic division and affiliates have the ability to design and manufacture products that aide in the reduction of wear and erosion in many industries. Call us to find out how we can help you reduce wear and erosion while providing potentially inexpensive and competitive ways to solve these problems.
